As you may have heard, Chef Gordon Ramsay was recently in Toronto promoting the F Word and his new book Healthy Appetite.  My colleague Jessica and I got a chance to attend his talk with Peter Oliver of Oliver & Bonacini at the Toronto Reference Library.

It was interesting to say the least. Peter Oliver, a seasoned Toronto restaurateur was no doubt chosen to goad the fiery Ramsay not just because of his food roots, but also for his heading up the Leacock Club’s (as in Stephen Leacock) Annual Debate, an event of humorous banter between high profile Canadians.

Peter Oliver was dry and prodding, and at times Ramsay sat a bit contorted in his chair but it was all in good fun. In fact, amidst a few customary F bombs (always good for a crowd chuckle), the infamous Chef was nothing short of gracious while doing more than holding his own.

Jessica and I set up the cam to bring you some choice excerpts from the event, and here’s the first clip. Look for more extensive installments in the following weeks, on Food For Thought. See below for F Word giveaway!

GIVEAWAY: I have SIX – a windfall! – Series 1 of The F Word DVDs to give away. In the F Word, Ramsay is still very much Ramsay, except this time there’s even more action, ruthless admonition and you guessed it, F bombs. Watch and cringe as he puts a group of young amateur chefs through all manner of kitchen torture, as they compete for a spot in his kitchen. As per the action, The F Word also has him taking flight across the globe in search of the freshest ingredients, which he culls for you into delicious gourmet meals adapted for your home kitchen.

For your fix of love/hate Ramsay antics, email me the correct answer to the following question: In The F Word, if diners don’t like the food that the amateur chefs prepare for them, the don’t have to…what? Email your answers to blog(@)foodtv(.)ca with The F Word in the subject line. (Please see Contest Rules.)

Update:  The F Word on DVD was newly released this past February 17th and Season Two will be in stores on March 17th, 2009.
