THIS student is hoping to bring a little sweetness to TV hardman Gordon Ramsay.
Budding chef Tony Bee is whipping up something special at the Good Food Show this month, to bag a place in the final of the Gordon Ramsay Scholar competition.

Nominated by his tutors at Blackpool and The Fylde College, the 18-year-old will be a slave to the stove over the next couple of weeks, perfecting his menu for his public performance in Birmingham.

Tony, of Neville Avenue, Cleveleys, said: “I’m confident about the savoury but I’m not so sure about the sweets.

“I’m spending all my time working on my pastries, brandy snaps and crème brûlée.

“It’s keeping me busy so I don’t think too much about the competition and get worried about cooking in front of all those people.”

A former Montgomery High pupil, Tony was handed the catering school’s student of the year honour earlier this year.

He discovered a love of cooking while working in kitchens including La Mezzaluna in Cleveleys and the Big Blue Hotel at the Pleasure Beach.

He said: “I loved the idea of being a chef.

“I’ve worked really hard and I soak up information, I must really annoy my tutors by asking questions all the time.

“I was amazed to realise I’d got through as one of the few students in the Gordon Ramsay competition, it would be amazing to win and get a week in the kitchen with him.

“My ultimate aim is to learn as much as I can and come back to Blackpool to open a really high quality restaurant with my sister and give local people a taste of the best food possible.”

Tony will be up against 39 other hopefuls, including the St Annes Lindum Hotel chef Anna Spooner, previously featured in The Gazette. They will compete at the Good Food Show at the Birmingham NEC which is on from November 28.

The winner will cook live on stage with Gordon Ramsay on Sunday December 2.
