Gordon Ramsey has caused a major outcry in Australia after branding A Current Affair host Tracey Grimshaw as a pig and a lesbian in front of an audience of several thousand people at the Melbourne Good Food and Wine Show last Saturday.

Grimshaw responded on her show by branding the millionaire chef an “arrogant narcissist”.

She told Perth radio on Tuesday the personal attack upset her and her mother, stating,”It upset my mother and when you upset my mother you upset me.”

Ramsey has since apologised for his outburst, claiming that a phone call from his mother Helen had made him realise he was out of line.

Tracy, where do I start? First of all, you’ve shown me great respect and amazing support over the last three or four years and I’d just like to take this opportunity to apologise for the stupid comments and am deeply mortified that the whole thing has gone this far. My apologies,” Ramsay said.

As a result Ramsey has been forced to cancel some engagements Down Under, including an exclusive black-tie dinner in Perth.

Ramsey is in Australia to oversee the opening of his new restaurant Maze at the Crown. The controversial chef stated that Melbourne was “a shining beacon in the culinary world” but that Maze would be very competitive when it opened in 18 months.
