The glitzy Ritz-Carlton at Powerscourt played host to ogre Gordon Ramsay yesterday as the acclaimed chef opened his first Irish restaurant at the new hotel.

'It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to open in Ireland, in such beautiful surroundings' said the foul-mouthed cook. 'County Wicklow is internationally renowned for the quality of its food and the warmth of its hospitality and I will ensure that these qualities are brought to the fore at Gordon Ramsay at Powerscourt.'

Ramsay is known for bullying celebrities, struggling restauranteurs and just about everyone except his wife Tana, and seems to have avoided the 'manners are free' school of thought. It is widely accepted nonetheless that he does a decent dinner.

It is unlikely, however, that diners will get much opportunity to catch a glimpse of the jet-setting darling of reality t.v. so he has appointed Paul Carroll as his Chef De Cuisine.

Paul worked with Ramsay for six years in London.
