Douglas Graham, owner of Blackwood Butchers in Lochwinnoch Road, appeared at the Good Food Show last weekend and met the F Word star.

The busy butcher was delighted to provide Ramsay and fellow chefs Nick Nairn and James Martin with meat for their cookery demonstrations at the show.

And Ramsay was so impressed with the Kilmacolm produce, he took time out of his cooking schedule to praise the local meat man.

Douglas said: “Gordon came up to the stand at the end of the show on the Saturday and told us it had been a pleasure working with such great produce.

“I spent about 15 minutes chatting to him — there was none of this effing and blinding you hear about. You could not meet a nicer guy, he was absolutely brand new.”

Meat is obviously a subject close to Ramsay’s heart — after all, his dad once ran a butcher’s in Greenock.

Douglas showcased his top choice cuts at the Quality Meats Scotland stand at the SECC on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Food fans flocked to the stand at the end of each cookery demo and bought loads of Douglas’ produce. He said: “We sold about 150 ribeye steaks after Nick Nairn’s demo, it was great. We also completely sold out of Stornoway black pudding.

“Only two butchers based in Scotland were selected to appear at the show, so this really was a great honour. The event definitely helped us create a few PR opportunities — it’s been really helpful.”

Blackwood’s have been established in Kilmacolm for 101 years, and Douglas started working in the store as a dishwasher when he was only 13.

He has been slicing and dicing as owner for the last 10 years but has worked there for the last 30. He said: “I’ll probably be here for the next 30 but it will be worth it!”
