Love him or f#$*ing hate him, Gordon Ramsay is coming to Perth.

Perth-based Diablo Events is bringing the controversial celebrity chef to Perth in June for two events, with part proceeds going to children’s charity Variety WA.

“It’s a real coup because he’s never been to Perth before,” Diablo Events director Catherine Scott said. “I’d been to his restaurants and thought he was a really interesting person and I don’t think he’s necessarily portrayed on television the way he is in real life.”

Ramsay, best known for his expletive-laden television outbursts directed at sub-standard restaurants, will dish up his advice and personal anecdotes of his successes and his failures at a breakfast at the Perth Conference and Exhibition Centre on June 24. Unusually, the award-winning chef will also answer questions from the audience.

“You don’t need to expect someone standing there shouting at you from the podium at the Perth Convention Centre,” she said. “He’s not going to make anyone cry.”

Ramsay, who is set to expand his 25 strong restaurant empire with the opening of Maze in Melbourne in February next year, will also host a black tie dinner dance at Government House on June 25.

One lucky Perth chef specially selected by Ramsay will collaborate on the four-course menu, travelling to LA to consult with Ramsay and provide advice on local produce and wines.

Scott has worked as a volunteer for Variety WA for several years and is excited for part proceeds from the chef’s visit to go towards helping children and families

“It made sense to get variety involved in this when I was bringing someone of Gordon’s quality over,” she said.
