Snowed-in staff at one of Gordon Ramsay's flagship restaurants had to sleep in the kitchen after the management refused to pay for hotel rooms.

Workers at Maze in London's Mayfair - part of the plush Marriott Hotel - were stranded on Monday. Some haggled the price of a room down to £50 but were told they would not be refunded. A source said: "Many couldn't afford that. They were resigned to sleeping in the restaurant after slaving over a hot stove."

Ramsay Holdings said the decision was made by a junior manager. A senior boss did authorise rooms for the following night and paid for taxis.
