While diners are used to leaving Gordon Ramsay's restaurants feeling well-fed but considerably poorer, they may now have their wallets emptied without ever setting foot there.
Mandrake learns that the chef has introduced a charge of £30 per person for diners who fail to honour their booking at the York and Albany, his new restaurant in Camden Town, north London.
"Failure to attend at the reserved time may result in you being charged a no-show fee," it says on the website. The dining room threatens a £30 per person cancellation charge for a table of five or more. "The decision whether to debit your card with a cancellation fee is entirely at the discretion of the restaurant."
However, the restaurant adds that it reserves the right to cancel a booking "at any time, for any reason without prior notification to you". A spokesman for Ramsay says the charge does not apply to those booking online.
