Although whether his volcanic temperament and Tourette's vocabulary is a made-for-television invention is altogether another matter.
An English friend, who dines regularly at his eponymous London restaurant and has met the superstar chef socially, maintains he is incredibly charming away from the cameras.
"I'm always amazed at the tirades that are shown on television because he is witty, polite and great company in person and needless to say his food is sublime," he said.
Ramsay is on the Coast from June 12-14.
