Gordon Ramsay dons disguise to attend Delia Smith's cookery school
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay served up a surprise for rival Delia Smith when he went undercover at her cookery school.

Wearing prosthetic make-up, glasses and a hairpiece to make him appear years older, and speaking with a Scottish accent, Ramsay posed as an amateur cooking enthusiast and signed up for a class.

The unsuspecting Smith was totally fooled and failed to spot that one of the nation's best known chefs was under her nose. She only realised the true identity of her pupil when Ramsay ambushed her several weeks later.

Viewers can see the prank in the opening episode of Gordon Ramsay: Cookalong Live tonight at 9pm.

Ramsay visited Smith's Food and Wine Workshop, a day-long cookery demonstration hosted by the veteran television chef at Norwich City Football Club, of which she is chair.

His aim was to "see what his rivals are up to" and future episodes will see Ramsay dupe other unwitting chefs.

There is no love lost between Ramsay and Smith, two of the country's foremost culinary figures.

Smith has criticised her rival over his foul language on shows such as Hell's Kitchen and The F Word. "That's not teaching. I like him when he does his recipes, but I'm not keen on his swearing," she has said.

Ramsay was scathing about Smith's recent series, How To Cheat At Cooking, in which she extolled the virtues of frozen mash and tinned mince. "Here we are trying to establish a reputation across the world for this country's food and along comes Delia and tips it out of a can. That hurts," he said.
