Gordon Ramsay and Donald Trump In Race for Scot of the Year 2008

A list of contenders for the title Scot of the Year 2008 has been released by London based charity ScotsCare. The winner will be announced to mark Burns Day on the 25th of January.

Last year’s winner Gordon Brown is once again in the running after surviving a turbulent year at number 10 as is BBC’s Sports Personality and Olympic hero Chris Hoy.  Another entry from the sports world, Andy Murray will be hoping his domination on the courts translates into votes. From the arts world, A.L Kennedy has been recognised as well as David Tennant and Kelly Macdonald after her blistering performance in No Country for Old Men and Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.

Half Scot Donald Trump, who has courted controversy with his plan for a world class golf course and resort on a sensitive piece of land in Aberdeenshire, is recognised for his ambition and investment in Scotland’s future if not in its bird population. And if you’re stuck on where to place your vote this Christmas, Gordon Ramsay might be a good bet, the way things are going he might need someone to share his Christmas dinner.

Full list of nominees:

Andy Murray: Tennis tournament wins

Donald Trump: Recognising his vision for and investment in Scotland

Gordon Brown: Leadership in turbulent economic times

David Tennant: Stage success in Hamlet

Chris Hoy: Outstanding Olympic success

A.L Kennedy: Winning the Booker Prize

Sir Fred Goodwin: Dignified exit from RBS and ability to say sorry

Gordon Ramsey: Admirable handling of affair allegations

Mark Beaumont: Breaking the record for cycling around the world

Kelly Macdonald: Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nomination for No Country For Old Men

ScotsCare Chief Executive Willie Docherty said, “Every year we hold this vote to find Scot of the year and its always interesting, if sometimes surprising to see who the public choose. Whatever the result though, it’s a wonderful way to celebrate one great Scot by announcing another.”

ScotsCare is a charity for Scots based in London who are in need, hardship or distress.  ScotsCare helps first and second generation Scots, in line with this the poll also covers first and second generation Scots.  ScotsCare’s client have been asked to cast their vote, anyway keen to voice their choice can vote at www.scotscare.com.
