The chef was embarrassed after his mother Helen Cosgrove, who lives in Taunton, denied she demanded he apologise over his sexist remarks.
It came after the fiery chef said sorry to TV host Tracey Grimshaw on the nation’s ABC television station after calling her a pig, claiming that his mum had told him to.
But Ms Cosgrove confirmed she hadn’t spoken to Ramsay since Saturday, before the row erupted.
But speaking yesterday, Helen confirmed she finally got to give Ramsay a firm “ticking off” on Wednesday afternoon when he called her at home. She said: “Gordon called and I told him off for calling Tracey Grimshaw a pig on television.
“He deserved a good telling off because he shouldn’t have done it and it was a completely unfair comment to make.
“I work for Women’s Aid and so does he and he should know better.
“When Gordon does something wrong I will always tell him the truth. But me telling him off is a private matter between mother and son. My son is not a liar.
“He shouldn’t have said anything nasty. But when you tell him what he has done wrong he does stand up and put his hands up and apologise.
“He also apologised to me.”
Ramsay, on a tour Down Under, launched into a tirade about Ms Grimshaw in front of a 3,000-strong audience the day after she interviewed him.
He showed the crowd at a food show in Melbourne a photo of a woman naked on all fours with a hog’s face, adding “That’s Tracy Grimshaw”.
Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd described the comment as “low-life” and “offensive”. The Hell’s Kitchen star has since admitted his remarks were “inappropriate”.
