CHEF, John Burton Race, star of I'm A Celebrity and Britain's Best Dish, has declared himself bankrupt.

The 52-year-old made the application two months after his ex-wife Kim was made bankrupt by a creditor who was owed £15,000.

The couple ran the Michelin-starred New Angel restaurant in Dartmouth, Devon, but Kim shut the place in 2007 while Race was in the jungle for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.

Their move to Devon in 2004 was documented by the Channel 4 series Return of the Chef.

Three years later Race walked out on Kim and their two young children to live with mistress Suzi Ward and the son he had fathered with her.

Last year Gordon Ramsay tried to buy New Angel but at a lower price than Race wanted.

Race's assests have been frozen and his creditors will have to apply to an insolvency practitioner to be paid.
