Television chef Gordon Ramsay has angered conservation groups after urging his viewers to eat a critically endangered species of fish.
Ramsay told a BBC presenter that skate, a critically endangered species, was a tasty replacement for cod. He told viewers there were “plenty of them” and told viewers to stay away from cod due to decreasing stocks.

A Greenpeace spokesman reacted to Ramsay’s comments yesterday. The spokesman said: “Gordon Ramsay should get his facts right. We are very concerned about the fishing of nonsustainable fish stocks and there have been a lot of problems with skate. We need celebrity chefs and people who are opinion-formers to be really clued up before they speak publicly about things like this. When a celebrity chef mentions a particular food, sales go up.”
Gordon Ramsay has not yet responded.
