TV chef Marcus Wareing, one of Gordon Ramsay's star chefs, has come out top in the annual accolades dished out by toptable.co.uk.

The restaurant review website looked at the booking habits and reviews of their 1.6 million customers and they put Ramsay's Knightsbridge restaurant Petrus, situated in The Berkeley Hotel, at the head of their menus in the Toptable dining awards 2007.

Now Ramsay, star of hit TV shows Hell's Kitchen and The F Word, can add the Toptable Top Rated Dining Award 2007 to the two Michelin stars the restaurant received last year.

Apart from the great food and service, there's a good chance you'll spot an A-List celebrity at Petrus with regulars including Kylie Minogue, Sharon Stone, Madonna, Robert de Niro and Kevin Spacey.

Michelle Smith, toptable.co.uk: "These awards are special because they are the views of the customers themselves and not those of restaurant critics."

Wareing, who has appeared on BBC TV's Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen, is the chef patron at Petrus, which specialises in modern French cuisine, and is responsible for the restaurant's signature dish of Oscietra caviar, tea-smoked mackerel and duck egg tart.

One Toptable client described Petrus as "dazzling on every level", while another said "Petrus is without doubt the finest restaurant it has been my privilege to eat at, the service was incredible and the food fantastic".

Set lunch at Petrus costs £30, a la carte is £65, and the tasting menu is £80.

Runners-up in the Top Rated category were Barry at The Tureen in Brighton (second place), The Vine in Sevenoaks (third), Le Gavroche in London (fourth) and The Bath Priory (fifth).

The Stunning Food category was won by Le Gavroche with One Pico in Dublin in second place. London's Tom Aikens was third with India Quay in Glasgow fourth and London's Foliage in fifth.

The Slick Service section was won by One-0-One in Knightsbridge and the Magical Ambience category went to Rhubarb in Edinburgh and the Cheap Eats award went to Fire and Stone pizza restaurant in London's Covent Garden.

But restaurants aren't just about eating and Toptable had a category for Best Loos and Sketch restaurant in London's West End was flushed by their success in this category.

Toptable customers described the egg-shaped toilets at Sketch, which also finished second in the Magical Ambience category, as "like something out of a sci-fi film".

Michelle Smith, editor at toptable.co.uk, said: "These awards are special because they are the views of the customers themselves and not those of restaurant critics. They say the customer is always right and that's why these awards are so sought after."
